19th GNC Anniversary: a Year of breaking records

14^th July 1997 in Rwanda, Butare, the former National University of Rwanda (Now University of Rwanda, Huye Campus). A group of not more than 6 people gathered together with the idea of praising the Lord especially in English songs thereby helping the English community have an English mass. It is believed that English masses in Rwanda started there in Huye, at the University Parish.

From the initial 6 founding members the number kept increasing and the Good News Choir was founded and it has now a 190 members; year after year people kept joining the choir enjoying the different activities done within the choir such as visits, Tuesday prayer, high school visits, concerts, sports&entertainement…

With the establishment of the GNC Constitution, 8 commissions (Liturgy, social affairs, protocol, law, entertainment, discipline, Music and Project) were created to assure the wellbeing and sociability among choir members.

after years of hard work: getting a new piano after the first was stolen in 2012,increasing the number of uniforms as the number of members was increasing  recruiting new choirmasters, increasing sociability the 2015-2016 academic year was set to become a year to break records.

In Liturgy: the first achievement of this commission is the Tuesday prayer, which has now became an unmissable rendezvous between God and the choir members who always find solace in that prayer with the stress of modules and assignments. This has been achieved especially with the help of God who worked through Commissioner INEZA I.Mauricette. This has also changed the public image of the choir.

In Social Affairs: most of former members always point out that the sociability has increased not only because of social Medias but because of the hard work of the commissioner in charge U.Henry and U.D.Christelle with the instauration of programs such as “ramutsa umuvandimwe”, “komeza imihigo”. It is also seen in visits where in the past years only one person was visited per visit now 4 people are visited and campus rooms can no more host the visitors we are obliged to use gymnasium hall or outside court for those who live outside the campus.

In Protocol: the best uniform ever wore in a concert by the Choir, thanks to I.Angelique for her idea and her persistence.

In entertainment: with the match played among choir members and also against other choirs. And with the introduction of the IT Team in 2013 a choir blog has been created, jingles for visits were made, and also the publicity of choir activities on different radios (soon on TV’s). Appreciating the hard work of I.F.Consolateur, M.A.Boston, and M.J.Giovanni. Where during the concert the church was full (record).

In Music: after the long race to recruit choirmaster Joachim in 2012 and choirmaster Pacis in 2014. The collaboration of these two great musicians and their hard work showed its fruits during the last concert. We can’t also forget the hard work of the great pianist Mr. U.Patrick .

We can’t forget the effective and active participation of each and every member and the great work of coordination of the executive committee which also assured the tour of the 4 principal high schools in Huye and prepared in cooperation with the GNF the country tour from june to September 2016.

And above all thanks be to God he who chose us, gathered us in this beautiful choir, gave all we needed to praise him and protected us, on this special occasion we offer again our choir to his divine mercy and protection.
